Born on October 1,1820 in Brewster, Barnstable County, Massachusetts, she was the daughter of Capt.Tully & Mercy Foster. Capt. Tully, died at sea in June of 1828 at the age of 37 when little Sally was just 8 years old. Sally married Isaac Foster Crocker on November 25, 1841, she was 13 years younger than her husband! A 1880 census shows they were living on Central Street in LINCOLN, PROVIDENCE, RHODE ISLAND. Sally & Isaac had two children together. The oldest child, Sophy/Sophie, died at a relatively young age in 1880.The youngest child, Henry, at the age of 26, enlisted in the Civil War (enlistment date May 26, 1862). He was in Company H, Rhode Island 9th Infantry. He mustered out on Sept. 2, 1862 at Providence RI. Sadly Sally's beloved husband died on April 8, 1878. Sally died on January 19, 1891. HERE ARE A FEW PARTIAL ENTRIES TAKEN FROM SALLY'S DIARY:" Went to Mr. Daniels this morning to see Lizzie. She is quite sick. The house looks lovely. Mr Daniels died very suddenly Dec 14th, cause a ruptured blood vessel, was buried the 18th in a severe storm of sleet & snow. His work now left unfinished, life was too short to finish what he had undertaken .... Moses & Martha came out to tea. They brought Mothers picture that he had been framing. I think the picture a very nice one & a good likeness of my own dear mother. The frame is very handsome. It was a Christmas gift from Sophy & her father for which I am very much pleased .... Isaac took Grandmother down to Paws & gave her quite a sleigh ride, left her to Josiah's. She & Father spent the day there. They are getting their things ready to go home Wednesday. Dr. Alexis Caswell died in Providence this morning, aged seventy-eight .... Took my work and sat an hour with Sophy Kelly at Dea. Grants, had a pleasant chat. It seems lonely not to see Mrs. Grant when I go there, we used to have pleasant times together ... The ladies work circle put a quilt in here today, one that the S. School has been piecing. Thirteen present to quilt .... Washington's birthday, cannons firing & flags flying .... Grandfathers 88th birthday .... News of Aunt Mary's death awaited me when I got home - Aunt Mary was eighty five years old .... Sophy Kelly burned her hand with hot fat. Hannah has gone to a Wake ....A French family has moved in to the Grey's house in the next house, expect to have lively time .... Left Luther's this morning, enjoyed my visit very much. They all did everything to make our visit pleasant. Isaac met me at the depot, we wandered around some, got some dinner, went up to the "State House", then walked across the Common to the Depot, arrived home all right .... "---------------- The diary measures approx. 3" x 5" and is partially full with 96 entries.Tucked between the pages are three pressed flower petals, and a tiny yellow & grey feather.
